Eligibility

You need to be registered in the UK and be eligible to pay UK tax.

You need to be a partnership, limited liability partnership (LLP) or limited company. If you are a sole trader, you must be a UK resident and only a tax resident in the UK. If you are a limited liability partnership (LLP) or a limited company, at least one person of significant control must be a UK resident and only a tax resident in the UK.

Your business must have a maximum of 10 directors. Any individual who is a person of significant control and anyone you appoint as a user for your account must be aged 18 or over and not be a US citizen.

What you'll need to apply

You can apply in as little as 15 minutes but if you need more time you can save your application and come back to it later. Please have the following things ready when applying:

• Your email address.

• A UK mobile phone number.

• Photo ID.

• A device with a camera.

• Email addresses and phone numbers of any additional signatories you wish to add to the account. These details must be different to yours. Please note, that in order to apply you must add all ultimate beneficial owners with 10%, or greater ownership of the business.

• Your Unique Taxpayer Reference number (you can find this in your Government Gateway account/HMRC app).
